Rating: 4.5/5
Udta Teer turns mistaken identity into a laugh-filled adventure, with Ayushmann Khurrana leading a comedy driven by absurd situations, sharp dialogues and impeccable comic timing.
Written and directed by Akash A Kaushik, the film revolves around a Pakistani intelligence operative who loses his memory after an accident in India and wakes up believing he is an Indian counter-intelligence officer. The premise sets the stage for a series of chaotic misunderstandings, with the film finding much of its strength in the sheer madness of the situations it creates.
Story and Performances
The film works best when it allows its humour to take centre stage. The dialogues are among its biggest strengths, delivering several genuinely funny moments, while the background score adds another layer of comedy through well-timed musical cues.
Ayushmann Khurrana anchors the film with his comic timing, bringing energy to the confusion at its heart. Sara Ali Khan adds to the entertainment, while the late Mukul Dev makes a mark as Azhar Maqsood.
Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover lend their distinctive presence to the proceedings, with Rahul Bose, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala and the rest of the ensemble contributing to the film’s comic appeal.
What Works
The biggest draw is the steady stream of humour, supported by lively performances and dialogues that frequently hit the mark. The background score also deserves credit for knowing when to amplify a joke without taking the spotlight away from the performers.
What Could Have Been Better
The second half feels somewhat stretched, with the runtime occasionally affecting the pace. A tighter edit could have made the comedy more consistently engaging and strengthened the overall experience.
Verdict
Despite its pacing issues in the latter half, Udta Teer delivers an entertaining ride powered by Ayushmann Khurrana’s comic timing, a strong ensemble and plenty of amusing exchanges. For viewers looking for a light-hearted comedy that embraces chaos rather than taking itself too seriously, the film offers plenty of reasons to laugh.
