The three suspects arrested in connection with the firing incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai are set to be taken to Mumbai by Maharashtra Police on Tuesday, after spending the night under heightened security at the Railway Colony police station in Kota.
The suspects were kept in custody overnight amid concerns over a possible escape attempt. As a precaution, armed personnel and commandos were deployed at the police station, while its CCTV surveillance system was linked to a command centre for continuous monitoring.
Kota City Superintendent of Police Tejaswini Gautam also visited the police station late Monday to review the security arrangements. The Mumbai Police had earlier delayed taking custody of the suspects because of security concerns.
According to police, the three suspects were apprehended at Kota railway station on Monday while travelling on the Pune-Jaipur Express (12939). They were reportedly found sitting at different locations in a general coach.
Investigators suspect the three were attempting to evade arrest following the firing incident. Police believe they had planned to travel to Jaipur by train, proceed to Delhi by bus and subsequently escape to Nepal. They were intercepted at Kota before they could continue with the alleged plan.
After their arrest, the suspects were taken to the Railway Colony police station, where security was intensified because of the sensitivity of the case and concerns about their possible escape.
The Mumbai Police are expected to leave Kota with the three suspects on Tuesday and take them to Mumbai for further investigation. Their custody is expected to help investigators establish their alleged roles in the firing incident and gather further details about the case.
The firing incident took place in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18. Shroff escaped unhurt, while his driver and an autorickshaw driver sustained injuries.
Further details are expected to emerge as the Mumbai Police continue their investigation.
