A couple was killed on the spot, while their three minor daughters were seriously injured after a speeding car rammed into their motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh’s Pandhurna district as the family was returning home after offering prayers at a religious site.
The deceased have been identified as Vasudev Uike, 40, and his wife, Sunita Uike, 35. Their daughters — Vaishnavy, 3, Sonu, 7, and Rakhi, 5 — sustained injuries in the accident and are undergoing treatment.
Vaishnavy, the youngest of the three girls, suffered a fracture and has been referred to Nagpur for specialised medical care. Sonu and Rakhi are being treated at the Pandhurna Civil Hospital.
According to police, the family was travelling on a motorcycle and crossing the Tigaon four-lane highway when a speeding car struck their bike with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that Vasudev and Sunita died at the scene. Passers-by and local residents rushed the injured children to a hospital.
The accident occurred late at night, when traffic on the highway was relatively light. Eyewitnesses said the car was travelling at high speed and did not stop after the collision. The driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving the family on the road.
Police teams reached the spot after receiving information and launched a search for the vehicle and its driver. Senior officers said investigators were examining CCTV footage and other available leads to trace the car involved in the accident.
The motorcycle has been seized, and a case has been registered. Local administration officials and hospital authorities are monitoring the condition of the three injured girls.
Doctors at Pandhurna Civil Hospital said Sonu and Rakhi were stable but remained under observation, while Vaishnavy required specialised treatment in Nagpur.
Residents have demanded strict action against the driver and improved road safety measures on the Tigaon four-lane highway, where several accidents have reportedly occurred in the past.
Police said further investigation was underway to establish the exact sequence of events and identify the car involved in the collision.
