New Delhi, October 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Police have registered four FIRs over the INDIA bloc’s march to the Supreme Court against alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, while several protesters, including Campaign for Judicial Accountability and Reforms (CJP) activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, were detained at Jantar Mantar.

According to police sources, the FIRs were registered at Connaught Place, Tilak Marg, Mandir Marg and Barakhamba police stations for alleged violations of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Two cases were registered at Tilak Marg police station and one each at Mandir Marg and Barakhamba, the sources said.

The detentions at Jantar Mantar followed a flash protest by CJP volunteers. A video shared by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke showed protesters climbing over an iron gate and a police barricade to enter the protest area with flags and raise slogans, including “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Inquilab Zindabad”. Police personnel chased the demonstrators before detaining members of the group and taking them away.

The developments followed Monday’s march by INDIA bloc leaders, activists and civil society members in central Delhi to protest against the Election Commission of India over alleged electoral irregularities and the SIR exercise. A delegation of Opposition leaders subsequently approached the Supreme Court with a joint petition challenging the revision process.

The march came a day after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined a request to meet Opposition leaders, citing the matter’s sub judice status.

The Congress claimed on social media that 2.5 lakh people had participated in the demonstration. The ‘March for Democracy’ began at the Constitution Club around 1.30 p.m. and continued for more than four hours.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge drew attention by wearing a Batman mask during the march. Despite a proposal by INDIA bloc leaders to display only the national flag, Congress flags were prominent, along with flags of Left student organisations. Most participants were Congress supporters who had travelled from different parts of the country, according to the report.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has invited INDIA bloc leaders, civil society representatives and student organisations for a high tea at his residence at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. A press conference is also scheduled ahead of the meeting.

Meanwhile, a security review of three newly designated protest sites has been completed, sources said. Deployment strategies are being assessed and revised daily based on real-time inputs received by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ control room.
