Mansa, October 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Preliminary investigations into the murder of anti-drug activist Parminder Jhota in Mansa point towards personal enmity as the possible motive, DIG Mansa Range Harjeet Singh said on Tuesday. He assured that police teams were working to arrest the main accused within 24 hours.
According to the DIG, police received information about the incident at around 10:30 am. Chemist shop owner Ashwani Kumar allegedly shot Jhota with his licensed pistol, resulting in his death. An FIR has been registered, one key associate has been arrested, and the main accused’s family members have been detained for questioning.
Multiple police teams are working with the CID and other departments to trace the main accused. Harjeet Singh said investigators were also examining a previous dispute between the two individuals dating back to 2023. He assured protesters that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours and legal action would follow.
Meanwhile, AAP Punjab Media In-charge and State General Secretary (Organisation) Baltej Pannu said the suspected personal enmity behind the murder must be thoroughly investigated. He stressed that no personal dispute could justify taking the law into one’s own hands.
Pannu said anyone found responsible must face strict legal action and called for the main accused to be apprehended at the earliest. He added that the investigation must remain impartial to ensure justice in accordance with the law.
