Punjab Minister for NRI Affairs Dr. Ravjot Singh on Wednesday said the state government will ensure transparent, impartial and time-bound resolution of issues faced by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), with property disputes, illegal encroachments and matrimonial matters among the major complaints being received.
Addressing NRI Milni-2026 organised at Hotel Le-Meridien in Amritsar, Dr. Ravjot Singh said the initiative was aimed at providing NRIs an opportunity to present their grievances directly and enabling the administration to initiate action without delay.
NRIs from four Majha districts — Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Pathankot and Gurdaspur — participated in the interaction. Officials from the civil administration and police departments of the respective districts were also present.
A total of 75 complaints were heard during the programme, following which the Cabinet Minister issued directions to the concerned officials for appropriate action.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said Punjabis settled abroad remained deeply connected with their homeland, culture and heritage and had contributed to enhancing Punjab’s reputation globally. He said the government was committed to ensuring that every NRI-related matter was examined fairly and resolved on merit within the prescribed timeframe, in accordance with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The minister said 12 NRI Milnis had been organised earlier, while eight separate online interactions had also been held. He said complaints commonly relate to property disputes, illegal occupation of land, discrepancies in documents and matrimonial issues.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said he was personally monitoring long-pending cases and matters where hearings had been delayed. Regular reviews were also being conducted with concerned departments to ensure timely disposal.
Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, NRI Affairs Secretary Mohammad Tayyab, NRI Commission members Kamal Garg and Sukhjinder Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh, Commissioner of Police Harmandeep Singh Gill, SDM Gurmander Singh, Assistant Commissioner Pragati Sethi, DCP Jagjit Singh Walia and senior officials were present.
