Bundi, September 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The deaths of two women following Caesarean deliveries at the Maternal and Child Health Unit of the District Hospital in Rajasthan’s Bundi have prompted an investigation by the Health Department and district administration.

The two women, identified as 32-year-old Kavita and 33-year-old Varsha, developed complications after undergoing C-sections and were referred to other hospitals for further treatment, where they died.

According to preliminary information, four women underwent Caesarean deliveries at the district hospital on Wednesday and Thursday. All four reportedly developed health complications after surgery and were subsequently referred to other medical facilities.

Kavita, who underwent a C-section on Wednesday, died while receiving treatment at a private hospital. Two other women underwent Caesarean deliveries at the hospital on Thursday, following which their conditions reportedly deteriorated. Varsha, one of the two, later died during treatment.

The exact cause of either death has not yet been officially established. Preliminary information has indicated possible complications involving urinary retention and kidney failure, but authorities have not confirmed whether these conditions were responsible for the deaths or whether they were linked to the surgeries.

The district hospital’s Operation Theatre has been closed as a precautionary measure pending completion of the investigation. No Caesarean sections or other surgeries will be conducted there during this period.

An investigation team has been sent to collect samples, while two separate high-level teams — one from the Health Department and another from the district administration — have been constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the cases.

The inquiry will examine the surgeries performed, medicines administered, medical equipment, Operation Theatre conditions, treatment provided and other factors that could have contributed to the reported complications.

Additional District Collector H.D. Singh visited the hospital following the deaths and met doctors, Operation Theatre staff and Principal Medical Officer (PMO) N.L. Meena to gather details. Officials also sought information about the patients’ treatment, deterioration in their condition and referrals to other hospitals.

PMO N.L. Meena said the matter was being taken seriously and that the actual causes of the deaths would become clear only after the investigation and medical examination were completed.

The inquiry by the Health Department and district administration is currently underway.
