The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Bhiwani unit, has arrested a field Kanungo posted at Bhiwani tehsil for allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe in connection with a measurement report for a house built on panchayat land.
The accused has been identified as Ashok, a field Kanungo posted at Tehsil Bhiwani. He was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
A case has been registered against him at the SV&ACB police station in Hisar under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case has been registered as FIR No. 34 dated September 18, 2026.
According to the complaint, a house belonging to an acquaintance of the complainant has been built on panchayat land in Mundhal Khurd village of Bhiwani district for around 25 years. The house reportedly covers an area of approximately 215 square yards.
The complainant stated that the Haryana government has implemented a scheme concerning ownership rights over houses constructed on panchayat land where occupants have been in possession for 20 years or more.
To avail the benefit of the scheme, an online application was submitted on July 18, 2026, for demarcation and measurement of the house.
The complainant alleged that Ashok demanded Rs 10,000 for preparing and providing a copy of the measurement report related to the property.
After receiving the complaint, the SV&ACB team from its Bhiwani unit laid a trap as per procedure. The accused was subsequently arrested while allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bureau said the entire operation was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
