BJP MLA Ram Kadam on Friday questioned why the Disha Salian case was not handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while criticising Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray over his recent assertion that he had no connection with the case.
Kadam was reacting to a Rs 500-crore defamation notice issued by Disha Salian’s father to Aaditya Thackeray.
Speaking to IANS, the BJP legislator said Thackeray had taken six-and-a-half years to state that he had no connection with the case and questioned why a thorough investigation was not conducted if there was nothing to fear.
“It took Aaditya Thackeray six-and-a-half years to say that he has no connection with it. Even if we assume he has no connection, what was there to fear? Why wasn’t a proper investigation conducted?” Kadam said.
He also questioned why the case was not transferred to the CBI despite repeated requests from Salian’s father.
“Even when Disha’s father repeatedly asked for the case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), why wasn’t it handed over? What was the reason behind it?” he asked.
Kadam further alleged that police action during the previous Uddhav Thackeray-led government had sought to protect Aaditya Thackeray and claimed that evidence was tampered with. These allegations have been raised by the BJP, while the claims remain disputed.
On concerns raised by the Congress over the inclusion of OBC quota within the Maratha reservation, Kadam said 12 of 13 demands made by the Maratha community had been addressed and maintained that the remaining issue fell within the jurisdiction of the courts.
He said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was responsible for providing the community’s first reservation and asserted that the state government stood with the Maratha community.
Reacting to reports about actor Swara Bhasker’s messages to fellow actors following the Ram Janmabhoomi verdict, Kadam said some people make controversial remarks to remain in the headlines and argued that such statements should not receive attention.
