Sunanda Sharma Case – Strict Action to Be Taken Against Those Found Guilty, says Raj Lali Gill

The Punjab State Women Commission had directed Punjab Police Headquarters to submit an action-taken report by March 9, 2025, regarding the matter concerning renowned singer Sunanda Sharma, following her public plea, “Mennu roti joga taan chhad dio” (If you allow me to earn my livelihood, then let me be).

Taking suo moto cognizance of media reports, the Commission had instructed an SP-rank officer to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Exercising its powers under Section 12 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001, the Commission had sought an urgent response from the police.

Chairperson Raj Lali Gill stated that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of harassment or exerting undue pressure on the singer based on the findings of the investigation.

She emphasized that the Commission will not tolerate any form of intimidation, harassment, or violation of women’s rights. She further assured that the Punjab State Women Commission remains committed to ensuring justice and preventing such incidents in the future.

The Commission also urges all girls who are suffering in silence to come forward and seek help. It reaffirms its dedication to standing with victims and ensuring their safety, dignity, and justice.

The Commission is closely monitoring further developments and will take all necessary legal actions as per the law.
