Ayodhya, November 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday took an indirect swipe at the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying its leaders should visit the Ram Temple in Ayodhya only after apologising for the 1990 police firing on karsevaks.

Addressing the 2026 edition of Deepotsav, attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Adityanath recalled the sacrifices of karsevaks, the struggle of saints and the Ram Janmabhoomi movement led by former Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Ashok Singhal.

He said that after nearly 500 years of struggle, Ram Lalla was now enthroned at his birthplace. He asserted that Ayodhya would no longer witness curfews, riots or police firing on devotees.

“I have come here today to assure you that those people who neglected us, insulted us, fired bullets at Ram devotees, insulted saints, and cane-charged them—should definitely come to Ayodhya but only after apologising,” the Chief Minister said.

“They should at least apologise once to the Ram devotees and to the saints. They should repent for their actions,” he added, saying that Lord Ram was compassionate and would forgive everyone.

Without naming anyone, Adityanath also criticised those who, he alleged, had once tried to deny the existence of Lord Ram in court but were now accepting it. He described this as an ideological victory and accused certain political figures of showing a lack of understanding of the sanctity and decorum of religious gatherings.

Emphasising Lord Ram’s message of social harmony, he referred to the inclusion of figures such as Maharishi Valmiki, Maharishi Vishwamitra, Mata Shabari, Nishad Raj and Jatayu in the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. He also warned that those approaching Ayodhya with malicious intentions would not escape Lord Ram’s punishment.

Highlighting the city’s development, Adityanath said Ayodhya had progressed from receiving only three hours of electricity a day to becoming a Smart City and Solar City. He cited the development of Dharm Path, Bhakti Path, Shri Ram Path and Janmabhoomi Path, and said projects worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore had been completed or were underway under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He also referred to the international airport named after Maharishi Valmiki and facilities associated with Mata Shabari and Nishad Raj, describing them as symbols of modern Ayodhya.

On Deepotsav, Adityanath said the celebration had grown from 25,000 diyas in its initial edition to a target of three million diyas in its tenth year. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan lit the inaugural lamp at this year’s event.
