New Delhi, September 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Pakistan Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir has reaffirmed his resolve to defeat terrorism, while allegations from Indian officials and security sources continue to accuse Pakistan’s military establishment of supporting terror groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

During his visit to Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Tuesday, Munir was briefed on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ongoing counter-terrorism operations, border management and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the province. He directed the formations to remain vigilant and maintain high standards of operational preparedness.

According to Pakistan’s military media wing, Munir said the armed forces, with the support of the nation, remained determined to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country.

The remarks come amid continuing militant violence in Balochistan and KP, with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) among the groups posing security challenges to Pakistan.

However, Indian officials cited in the report alleged that Munir’s public references to terrorism focus on groups such as the TTP and BLA while avoiding mention of LeT and JeM.

An Intelligence Bureau official, cited by IANS, alleged that Munir has held meetings involving senior military and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officials and representatives linked to terror groups following Operation Sindoor in May 2025. The official claimed that discussions focused on rebuilding infrastructure associated with LeT, JeM and Hizbul Mujahideen that India said was destroyed during the operation.

These allegations could not be independently verified from the Pakistani military’s public statements regarding Munir’s Peshawar visit, which focused on counter-terrorism operations and security preparedness in KP.

Recent Indian media reports have separately cited intelligence sources alleging that terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is being rebuilt after Operation Sindoor. India Today reported earlier this month that several facilities near the Line of Control were being reconstructed, citing intelligence sources.

The report also cited allegations that LeT and JeM have continued to receive support from elements within Pakistan’s establishment. Indian officials further claimed that Munir has sought to legitimise these groups and that posters featuring him alongside senior LeT commanders have appeared in Lahore.

The claims come against the backdrop of a broader security crisis inside Pakistan. In KP, Pakistani authorities have continued counter-terrorism operations amid attacks attributed or linked to militant groups. Munir’s latest visit to Peshawar followed briefings on the province’s security situation and ongoing operations.

The report also highlighted the continuing conflict in Balochistan, where the BLA has maintained an armed campaign against the Pakistani state. It said supporters of the Baloch movement have raised demands concerning development, basic amenities and a greater share of revenue from the province’s natural resources.

Counter-terrorism experts cited in the report questioned what they described as contradictions in Pakistan’s approach to militancy, including allegations concerning the involvement of groups such as Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) in operations against the TTP and BLA.

The report further alleged that Pakistan-based launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were being prepared to facilitate infiltration attempts into Jammu and Kashmir. These claims were presented by officials cited by IANS and were not independently verified.

Munir’s latest statement, meanwhile, publicly reiterates Pakistan’s military position that defeating terrorism remains a national priority. The Pakistani military has described its current operations as part of efforts to restore security and stability across the country.
