Patna, October 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) founder Mukesh Sahani on Saturday criticised the reported detention of protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators had gathered to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to reports, more than 500 protesters were detained during the demonstration. Those reportedly taken into custody included Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and social media influencer Dhruv Rathee.

In a series of posts on X, Rohini Acharya condemned the police action and expressed solidarity with the demonstrators.

“Do not intimidate or threaten; the country has awakened now. The nation’s youth have taken to the streets against dictatorship,” she said.

In another post, Acharya said that suppressing voices speaking the truth would only encourage more people to speak out.

“Whenever you suppress a voice that speaks the truth, you will find many Dhruv Rathees and Sauravs in every corner of the country,” she wrote.

Acharya questioned the reported detention of CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Dhruv Rathee, alleging that the action reflected growing high-handedness by the Union government.

She also expressed concern over reports that some young people travelling to Delhi to join the demonstration had been stopped at the airport or prevented from entering the national capital.

Invoking Article 19 of the Constitution, Acharya argued that restrictions on peaceful protesters could infringe upon their fundamental rights. She condemned the detentions and called for the immediate release of those taken into custody.

Mukesh Sahani Questions Remarks About Young Protesters

VIP founder and former Bihar Minister Mukesh Sahani also criticised the alleged use of derogatory terms such as “flies” and “cockroaches” to describe young people, questioning whether such language was consistent with constitutional and democratic values.

Sahani invoked the legacy of freedom fighters, including Jubba Sahani, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Rani Lakshmibai, who fought against injustice and oppression.

He said young people raising concerns about employment, education, opportunities, rights and constitutional values deserved to be heard rather than humiliated.

“The young men and women who ask questions are the strength of democracy, not ‘flies’ or ‘cockroaches’,” Sahani said.

He emphasised that those holding positions of power should respond respectfully to the concerns of the younger generation. Democracy, he added, extended beyond elections and included citizens’ right to express their views and question those in authority.

Sahani urged the Union government to address the concerns raised by young people rather than suppress their voices, stressing that respectful dialogue was essential to upholding constitutional values and democratic principles.

The reactions from Acharya and Sahani add to the political criticism surrounding the Jantar Mantar demonstration and the reported detention of protesters seeking Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
