Chandigarh, October 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has come under criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Akali Dal Waris Punjab De after reportedly deleting a post on X in which she had strongly condemned Delhi Police action at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib during the recent protests in the national capital.
The controversy centres on Harsimrat’s decision to withdraw her statement condemning the alleged violation of the Gurdwara’s sanctity and reported mistreatment of women protesters.
Screenshots of the original post have since circulated on social media, prompting questions from political opponents about why the senior Akali leader deleted her remarks.
What Harsimrat Said in Her Deleted Post
In the post, Harsimrat had strongly criticised the reported entry of Delhi Police personnel into the sacred premises of Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib and the alleged treatment of protesters, particularly women.
She wrote:
“I strongly condemn the Delhi Police entering the sacred premises of Gurudwara Shri Bangla Sahib and the alleged atrocities against protesters, particularly women during today’s dharna.”
She further stated:
“Disrespecting the sanctity of a Gurudwara and manhandling women who were taking shelter while exercising their right to protest is completely unacceptable! The Delhi Police must be held accountable for its actions.”
The post was accompanied by a video showing uniformed police personnel walking through an area of the Gurdwara complex.
However, the SAD MP subsequently deleted the post, triggering criticism from political rivals.
AAP Questions Whether Modi or Shah Called Harsimrat
AAP Punjab questioned Harsimrat’s decision to remove the post and suggested that pressure from the BJP leadership could have influenced her action.
In a post on X, AAP Punjab asked:
“Why did you delete this tweet?”
It further questioned:
“Did you get a call from @narendramodi or @amitshah?”
AAP also asked whether Harsimrat was now comfortable with what the party described as the BJP’s police violating the sanctity of the Guru Ghar.
The questions amounted to a political allegation rather than evidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah had contacted the SAD MP.
Waris Punjab De Asks if BJP Pressured Harsimrat
Akali Dal Waris Punjab De also questioned the deletion and demanded an explanation from Harsimrat.
Addressing the SAD MP through its official X account, the party asked:
“Why did you delete your tweet condemning the reported police action at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib?”
It further questioned whether she had been pressured by the BJP to withdraw her statement.
The party asked how Harsimrat, as a Sikh, could justify removing her condemnation of an incident involving a Sikh religious institution.
“The Sikh Sangat deserves answers,” Waris Punjab De stated.
BJP Leader Phoolka Questions SAD’s Stand
The original post also reportedly drew criticism from BJP leader and senior Supreme Court advocate Harvinder Singh Phoolka.
Phoolka questioned why SAD (Badal) had associated itself with what he described as a false narrative surrounding the Delhi Police action.
Delhi Police have disputed allegations of violating Gurdwara Maryada, maintaining that personnel seen wearing shoes were moving through a common passage before the designated footwear-removal point.
The police explanation, however, has not ended the political controversy surrounding the incident.
Deleted Post Draws Attention Amid SAD-BJP Alliance Speculation
The controversy has acquired additional political significance amid speculation over a possible revival of the alliance between the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Reports have suggested that the two parties could move towards an understanding later this month, although no formal announcement has been made.
The deletion of Harsimrat’s post has consequently prompted AAP and Waris Punjab De to question whether political considerations influenced her decision.
Separately, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia had recently called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a television interview, citing growing public resentment against him.
The protests in Delhi, during which the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib controversy arose, were linked to demands for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
While AAP and Waris Punjab De have raised questions about possible BJP pressure, no evidence establishing such pressure has been presented in the material available.
Harsimrat’s reasons for deleting the post remain unconfirmed.
