The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on two Pakistan Coast Guard boats off Jiwani in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, claiming that 13 personnel were killed in the operation. The casualties have not been independently verified.
In a statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group’s maritime wing, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), carried out a coordinated assault on two large Coast Guard boats operating in the coastal waters near Jiwani.
The group also released a video through its media channel showing armed men aboard a boat. The BLA identified them as members of its maritime unit and claimed they used a boat equipped with modern weapons to attack the Pakistani vessels.
According to the statement, the HMDF was established on April 13, 2026, as part of the BLA’s broader strategy to expand its operations into maritime areas. The group said the unit aimed to target Pakistani forces at sea and asserted that its activities were intended to protect Balochistan’s coastline and resources.
The BLA described the Jiwani assault as the HMDF’s second operation against the Pakistan Coast Guard.
In April, the group had claimed that three Pakistani naval personnel were killed in what it called its first maritime operation in the Jiwani area. Footage released by its media wing, Hakkal, showed masked fighters boarding a speedboat and approaching a vessel they identified as a Pakistan Coast Guard boat before opening fire.
In its latest statement, the BLA warned that its operations were no longer confined to mountainous areas and cities, claiming it had developed the capability to target Pakistani military assets at sea.
The group said its campaign would continue until what it described as the withdrawal of Pakistani forces and the establishment of an independent Baloch state.
The latest claims could not be independently confirmed.
