Veteran actor Raghubir Yadav has revealed that acting was never a career he consciously pursued, describing his entry into the profession as a matter of chance. The actor, who is receiving a positive response for his latest series Hunkkaar – The Roar, also shared how his lifelong association with music influences his approach to portraying characters.
Speaking to IANS during the promotional activities for the series in Mumbai, Yadav said he often approaches his characters through music, as it helps him connect with their emotions and understand their personalities.
“I think of characters musically because it’s easier for me to grasp the character. The emotions in music, they come to you so quickly. And the way you are in the mood, the way you are living your life, the way you are happy, that kind of music comes to you so quickly. That’s what you want to hear. So, since childhood, I’ve been connected to music. Acting toh gale padd gayi mere (acting happened to me just like that). That’s why I had to do it,” he said.
Yadav explained that an actor needs to develop knowledge across several disciplines to understand the demands of the profession. He said he gradually developed an interest in acting but chose stagecraft as his specialisation rather than pursuing a formal acting course.
“The profession of an actor is such that it’s very necessary to learn everything. It’s very important. You have to know it. Then I started enjoying it. Music is one thing. There are other things with music. I mean, in the whole universe, there’s nothing in the universe that an actor shouldn’t know. That’s why I didn’t do a course in acting. My specialization. I did it in stage craft,” he added.
Hunkkaar – The Roar revolves around power, faith and influence, with the story following allegations made by 17-year-old Meenu Rawat against a spiritual figure. Directed by Karan D. Kapadia and Nitya Mehra, the series features Aneet Padda, known for Saiyaara, as Meenu Rawat.
The allegations set off a high-stakes investigation and courtroom battle, bringing the complex intersections of faith, institutional influence and justice into focus.
Fatima Sana Shaikh portrays ACP Jasleen Singh Soin, while Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Raghubir Yadav, Ram Kapoor and Arjun Mathur appear in pivotal roles.
Produced by Applause Entertainment, Birla Studios and Purple Pebble Pictures, the series explores the pursuit of truth and a young woman’s struggle to have her voice heard. Hunkkaar – The Roar is available to stream on JioHotstar.
