‘Mirzapur’ fame actress Harshita Gaur has opened up about dealing with the constant pressure to look perfect and remain camera-ready in the entertainment industry.
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Harshita said dealing with such pressure is ultimately an individual choice and that people can decide whether to take it on or remain comfortable in their own skin.
“There is pressure, but you can either take that pressure or choose not to. I think it is completely up to you,” she said.
Harshita added that audience attitudes towards appearance have also evolved, with viewers becoming more accepting of different body and skin types when they suit the character being portrayed.
The actress said she is comfortable experimenting with her appearance whenever a role demands it.
“I am open to experimenting, especially if the character requires it. It’s fun. That’s why we are in this field, because we get the opportunity to experiment. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here,” she told IANS.
Harshita also pointed to the changing influence of social media and said perceptions around body image have evolved over time.
“Earlier, when body image and social media were not such major factors, there was perhaps more pressure on people,” she said.
She noted that several shows now feature established actors appearing without makeup when it is required by their characters.
Giving the example of actress Kareena Kapoor, Harshita said, “Kareena Kapoor did a film where she didn’t wear makeup. I think people have become much more comfortable showing themselves as they are when the character demands it.”
Harshita’s comments come amid changing expectations around appearance in showbiz, where actors increasingly experiment with their looks to suit the demands of different roles.
