Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan penned a heartfelt birthday message for his longtime musical collaborator Ehsaan Noorani, celebrating a bond that extends beyond music and is built on friendship, laughter and brotherhood.
Taking to Instagram, Shankar shared a warm note for Ehsaan, reflecting on the memories they have created together over the years and expressing his excitement about making more music together. He also posted throwback photographs featuring the band.
“From making music together to making a lifetime of memories together. Happy Birthday, Ehsaan! Here’s to the music, the madness, the laughter, and the brotherhood that only keeps getting stronger. So many more memories and songs to go! Love you, brother,” he wrote.
Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy Mendonsa form the celebrated musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, known for delivering some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable soundtracks. Their work has spanned multiple genres, earning them a strong following among music lovers.
The trio has composed popular songs such as “Kal Ho Naa Ho”, “Dil Chahta Hai”, “Mitwa”, “Kajra Re”, “Maa” and “Senorita”. Their notable film soundtracks also include Rock On!!, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and 2 States.
Meanwhile, Shankar recently shared his perspective on why singers sometimes forget the lyrics of their own popular songs. He discussed the subject during a conversation marking 25 years of the cult classic Dil Chahta Hai, alongside Ehsaan Noorani, Loy Mendonsa, playback singer Shaan and Meiyang Chang.
During a special Spotify video, Shaan wondered why he often forgot the lyrics of songs he had sung. Shankar explained that once a song has been recorded and becomes popular, singers generally shift their attention to new projects.
“I will tell you why. Because you have already sung that song. The song has become popular. It has become a super hit. And you have already moved ahead. So that’s no longer a priority. That’s already done,” Shankar said.
He added that singers tend to concentrate more intensely on new songs, melodies and lyrics to ensure they do not make mistakes during recording.
For Shankar and Ehsaan, however, their long association continues to be about more than musical collaborations, as the birthday message highlighted the enduring friendship at the heart of their partnership.
