India’s Udhayveer Sidhu clinched the gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Cairo on Sunday, edging Germany’s Olympic medallist Christian Reitz by just 0.5 points in a thrilling finish.
The 24-year-old Indian shooter scored 240.6 in the medal match, while Reitz claimed silver with 240.1. Italy’s Paolo Monna secured bronze with a score of 219.8.
Udhayveer held his composure in the decisive stages of the final. Trailing Reitz by 0.3 points with two shots remaining, the Indian fired 10.2 and 9.8. Reitz managed 9.6 with each of his final two shots, allowing Udhayveer to seal victory with his last effort.
Earlier, Udhayveer qualified for the eight-shooter final in fourth place, recording 585 points across six series with scores of 99, 98, 98, 97, 97 and 96.
India’s Jonathan Gavin Antony, competing in the Ranking Points Only (RPO) category, shot 586 to share the highest qualification score with Monna.
Among the other Indian shooters, Ajendra Singh Chauhan finished 14th with 580 points, while Olympic medallist Sarabjot Singh placed 31st with 574. Kumar Yogesh recorded 573 points in the RPO section.
Turkey’s Yusuf Dikec, a medallist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finished seventh in the final with 138.0 points. Greece’s Georgios Gampierakis took fourth place with 198.7, followed by Latvia’s Emils Vasermanis, who scored 177.6 to finish fifth.
The ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol competition is being held in Cairo from October 8 to 16, 2026. India has fielded a 24-member team for the tournament after the shooters completed an intensive national training camp in Dehradun.
The camp took place from October 1 to 7 at Maharana Pratap Sports College, where the athletes focused on match simulations and refining their technical routines. India is competing across eight individual Olympic disciplines and two mixed-team events.
