A 70-year-old Romanian tourist died on Saturday after suffering sudden chest pain and breathing difficulties during a visit to Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region.
The deceased was identified as Corina Iacob, who had arrived in India on November 4 as part of a 32-member foreign tourist group. She reportedly developed severe chest pain and breathing difficulties around 9 am on Saturday.
Hotel staff arranged for her to be taken to the government hospital in Mukundgarh. After providing initial treatment, doctors referred her to the government hospital in Nawalgarh as her condition remained critical. However, doctors there declared her dead on arrival.
Preliminary assessments suggest a possible heart attack, but the exact cause of death will be established after the necessary medical procedures.
According to Mukundgarh police station SHO Gopal Singh Thalor, the tourist group had arrived in India to visit various destinations across the country. On Friday evening, around 5.30 pm, its members checked into Vivana Hotel in Churi Ajitgarh, in Jhunjhunu district. Iacob was among those staying at the hotel.
Her health was reportedly normal until Saturday morning, when she suddenly complained of chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Following her death, Nawalgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Sugan Singh visited the government hospital and spoke with officials to gather details about the incident. Police and medical department teams have begun collecting information, while the Romanian Embassy has also been informed.
Further legal formalities will be completed after Iacob’s family members arrive in India. The incident left other members of the tourist group in shock.
