UNITED SIKHS participated in the European event titled “Who Shapes European Democracy? Strengthening the Political Participation of People with a Migrant Background”, held at the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) in Brussels on September 10, 2026.
Organised as part of the Citizenship Academy project, the event brought together civil society organisations, community representatives and other stakeholders to discuss the participation and representation of people with migrant backgrounds in Europe’s democratic processes.
Representing UNITED SIKHS, Bhagvir Singh took part in discussions on ensuring that diverse communities and their lived experiences are reflected in political decision-making. The discussions also addressed the right to wear the Dastar and Hijab in EU legal identification documents.
The event also presented the European Decalogue of Recommendations, outlining proposals to strengthen political participation and inclusion across Europe.
UNITED SIKHS welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the discussion and engage with organisations and individuals working towards more inclusive, representative and participatory societies.
The organisation said it remains committed to empowering communities, promoting equality and ensuring that the voices of marginalised and underrepresented groups are heard.
