Two people were killed and three others seriously injured after a speeding SUV rammed into a parked concrete mixer truck on the Patna-Buxar four-lane highway in Bihar’s Buxar district on Saturday, police said.
The accident occurred near Nuaon village under the jurisdiction of Krishna Brahm police station. The SUV was travelling from Patna towards Buxar when it hit the stationary truck parked along the highway.
The collision was so severe that the SUV was completely mangled, trapping all five occupants inside. Two of them died at the spot, while the remaining three sustained serious injuries.
Eyewitness Krishna Sharma said the vehicle crashed into the truck carrying a concrete mixer machine used in road construction. Local residents and police personnel rushed to the scene and helped rescue the occupants before arranging medical assistance.
The injured were initially taken to Dumraon Sub-Divisional Hospital. Two were subsequently referred to Buxar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment, while the third continued to receive care at Dumraon.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bhaskar Ranjan reached the site and said the driver might have lost control of the vehicle, possibly after falling asleep at the wheel. However, police have not established the exact cause of the crash.
Ranjan confirmed that two people had died and three were injured. He added that efforts were underway to establish the identities of the deceased.
Religious offerings and other belongings found scattered at the accident site have led to speculation that the occupants may have been returning to Lucknow after visiting Baba Dham in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Their travel details and identities are yet to be officially confirmed.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident and working to establish the identities and backgrounds of all five occupants.
