Bollywood actor Salman Khan has offered an intriguing response to speculation about a possible biopic on his life, suggesting that while his story may not guarantee a box-office hit, it could have serious consequences for the reputations of several people.
Speaking to the media at a special event for his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace in Mumbai on Friday, Salman was asked whether the film was a biopic. He clarified that it was inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops.
The conversation then shifted to the possibility of a film based on his own life.
“There’s nothing in my life that will make a film a superhit. However, there’s a lot in my life which could lead to the reputation of a lot of people sinking,” Salman said.
The actor also dismissed speculation that the government had pressured the filmmakers to make changes to the script of Maatrubhumi.
The film, earlier titled Galwan, draws inspiration from the June 15, 2020, confrontation in eastern Ladakh, during which Indian and Chinese troops clashed in the Galwan Valley amid a wider military standoff along the Line of Actual Control.
The violent encounter resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and casualties on the Chinese side. It was the deadliest military confrontation between the two countries in more than four decades and triggered heightened tensions, military deployments and diplomatic engagement.
Salman’s remarks about a possible biopic have added a fresh dimension to speculation surrounding a screen adaptation of his personal journey, although he did not indicate that any such project was in development.
