A major fire broke out at a mobile accessories shop in Delhi’s Gaffar Market early Friday, spreading across all four floors of a commercial building and prompting the deployment of around 20 to 25 fire tenders.
No casualties or injuries had been reported so far, though the blaze caused property damage, police said.
According to Delhi Police, a PCR call reporting a fire at a building in Chain Wali Gali was received at Karol Bagh Police Station at 1.28 a.m. Police personnel, including the Station House Officer, rushed to the location and found the fire at Shop No. 13/21 in Puri Plaza.
The four-storey commercial building houses businesses dealing in mobile accessories. Preliminary information indicates that the fire started in a ground-floor shop where mobile batteries were stored before spreading to the upper floors.
Emergency response teams deployed around 20 to 25 fire tenders, three CAT ambulances and two PCR vehicles at the site. Firefighters launched operations to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.
Police said overheating or overcharging of batteries was suspected to be a possible cause, but the exact reason would be established after further examination.
The incident comes days after a deadly fire at a shoe factory in Delhi’s Mangolpuri Industrial Area on October 30. The blaze, which broke out at around 9.30 p.m. at a factory in Phase-I, claimed four lives and left two others seriously injured.
Six people were rescued from the factory after several hours of firefighting. All were found unconscious, and four later succumbed to their injuries.
