Actress Lara Dutta has expressed deep emotion over her role as Mata Kaikeyi in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited epic Ramayana, saying she wishes her late father could have been alive to witness this milestone in her career.
Taking to Instagram, Lara shared a heartfelt note about her journey towards becoming part of the mythological story, describing the opportunity as the fulfilment of a long-held wish to contribute to something that transcends generations.
“What began many years ago as a fervent wish… to be a part of something greater than oneself. Greater than the collective. Something that transcends time itself… something woven into the very fabric of our being. And today, that wish finds its place in a story as timeless as eternity,” she wrote.
Calling it an extraordinary privilege, the actress reflected on the responsibility of portraying Kaikeyi, a character she described as one of history’s most misunderstood women.
She said she hoped audiences would look beyond centuries-old perceptions of Kaikeyi and recognise her humanity, including her anguish, vulnerabilities, guilt and remorse, as well as her pivotal role in the divine prophecy.
Lara thanked producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari for trusting her with the part, while also expressing gratitude to her co-stars and the film’s crew.
The most personal part of her note was dedicated to her father. “I miss my father tremendously today and wish he was here with me to see this,” she wrote.
Concluding her message, Lara said some stories are not merely told but lived and carried within people. She signed off with “Jai Shree Ram”.
Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in India on November 5, 2026, with international releases beginning across November 5 and 6.
