New Delhi, November 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar of manipulating the counting process during the West Bengal Assembly elections, alleging that the electoral system had been “centrally hijacked” and votes had been made to disappear.

Addressing the INDIA bloc’s ‘Dilli Chalo’ rally at Ramlila Maidan, organised to demand Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral irregularities, the former West Bengal Chief Minister accused the BJP-led government of undermining democratic institutions and people’s voting rights.

Banerjee alleged that more than one crore voters had been removed from electoral rolls in West Bengal before the Assembly elections. She claimed the Trinamool Congress had not lost the election but had been defeated, and vowed to continue the political fight against the alleged irregularities.

“They have looted EVMs, democracy, the Constitution, people’s rights and the counting of votes. Gyanesh Kumar has not only ‘vanished’ votes but rather ‘vanished’ the entire counting by centrally hijacking the system,” she alleged.

Taking a swipe at the CEC, she also asked, “Vanish Kumar, when will you vanish?”

Banerjee described West Bengal as a victim of the circumstances arising from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and said her party would continue fighting to protect people’s rights. Mocking the BJP, she said the party’s interpretation of SIR was “Special Intensive Relief”.

She expressed solidarity with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which had organised protests against the CEC, and thanked civil society members, students and young people for supporting the campaign.

The Trinamool chief also accused the BJP of protecting Kumar and alleged that the party had looted jobs, elections, temple offerings and Waqf properties. Urging opposition parties and young people to unite, she called for a collective effort to defeat the BJP and “save democracy”.

Banerjee also appealed to central investigative agencies to remain impartial, asking them not to function as “puppets” of the BJP.
