A BJP leader has filed a complaint against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at Patna’s Kotwali police station over his controversial remark concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father during a Congress event in the Bihar capital.
Krishna Kumar, a member of the BJP’s state working committee, submitted the complaint following Kharge’s remarks at a programme organised at Bapu Sabhagar to mark the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister Sri Krishna Singh.
In his complaint, Kumar said he came across the alleged remark through television coverage and was hurt by the statement. He urged the police to examine video footage, news reports and other available evidence to establish the exact words spoken and their context.
The complainant also sought appropriate legal action if the investigation finds that any law was violated, stressing that remarks concerning family members in public discourse require restraint and dignity.
The controversy erupted during Kharge’s address, when he was criticising Prime Minister Modi and a person in the audience reportedly interrupted him by saying that the Prime Minister was not going anywhere.
Kharge responded, “Even PM Modi’s father will have to go,” triggering a political controversy.
Videos from the event also showed an individual being confronted and allegedly assaulted by Congress workers after interrupting Kharge’s speech. The circumstances surrounding the altercation have also drawn political attention.
BJP leaders have strongly criticised Kharge’s remark. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President Nitin Nabin reacted to the statement, while Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary demanded an apology from Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Choudhary described the remark as unfortunate and said political differences should not extend to personal references involving family members.
The complaint now seeks a formal police examination of the incident, including the context of Kharge’s statement and any possible legal implications.
