Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence in Dehradun on Sunday, with discussions focusing on ways to promote film production in the hill state.
Kumar, who is currently shooting for his upcoming film in Mussoorie and the Landour area, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister. The meeting also covered Uttarakhand’s film policy and the potential to further develop the state as a preferred destination for filmmakers.
“During the meeting, discussions were held regarding Uttarakhand’s film policy, the potential for film production in the state, and ways to promote the film industry,” an official statement said.
Dhami said Uttarakhand has established itself as a prominent film-shooting destination in the country, with its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, diverse geographical landscape and film-friendly environment attracting filmmakers.
He noted that the Uttarakhand Film Policy-2024 was producing positive results and that film shoots had further strengthened the state’s reputation as a preferred location for filmmaking.
Under the policy, filmmakers are offered various facilities, including shooting permissions through a single-window system. Financial grants have also been introduced to encourage film production in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the government aims not only to attract more film shoots but also to create employment and self-employment opportunities for local artists, technicians and young people.
He added that the expansion of film production activities had benefited several associated sectors, including tourism, hospitality, transportation and other local businesses.
Dhami reiterated that the state government was committed to extending all possible support to filmmakers interested in shooting in Uttarakhand.
Known for its valleys, mountains, rivers and scenic landscapes, Uttarakhand offers a variety of natural backdrops for film productions.
Developing the state into a film production hub could further strengthen tourism while creating additional employment opportunities for local communities.
