Gujarat has retained its position as India’s leading wind energy-producing state, recording the highest installed wind power capacity and electricity generation in the country, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
As of June 30, Gujarat’s installed wind power capacity stood at 16,086 MW, the highest among all states. During the financial year 2025-26, the state generated 33,706 million units (MUs) of electricity from wind energy, accounting for nearly one-third of India’s total wind power generation.
The country’s overall installed wind energy capacity reached 57,443 MW by the end of June 2026, while total wind power generation during FY 2025-26 stood at 106 billion units. Gujarat’s contribution has played a significant role in strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity and clean energy transition.
The state’s strong performance has been supported by sustained investments in transmission infrastructure, renewable energy integration and policy measures aimed at encouraging private sector participation.
Among the key initiatives driving growth are the Green Energy Corridor Scheme, which has strengthened dedicated transmission infrastructure for renewable energy evacuation, the waiver of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charges to promote renewable energy investments, and the National Repowering and Life Extension Policy for Wind Power Projects, 2023, designed to modernise ageing wind installations.
The Offshore Wind Energy Lease Rules, 2023, along with the Viability Gap Funding Scheme for Offshore Wind Projects, have also laid the foundation for expanding offshore wind development in the state.
Gujarat’s long coastline and favourable wind conditions have made it a preferred destination for large-scale wind energy projects. The state’s progress aligns with India’s national objective of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030 while reducing the carbon intensity of the economy.
The state government said Gujarat’s achievements underscore the importance of coordinated policy support, infrastructure development and efficient integration of renewable energy into the national power grid.
