The Bihar government has ordered a reshuffle in the state police administration, transferring five IPS officers and assigning additional responsibilities to another senior officer.
In a key change, Khagaria Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh has been removed from the district post and directed to report to the Bihar Police Headquarters in Patna with immediate effect. He will remain at the headquarters pending a fresh posting. Singh had recently attracted attention following a reported dispute with his wife.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department’s Police Branch, Shailendra Singh, who was serving as Superintendent of Police in Sheohar, has been appointed as the new SP of Khagaria.
Mohibullah Ansari, formerly City SP of Muzaffarpur, will take over as Sheohar SP.
Aprajit, a 2020-batch IPS officer, has been transferred from his post as Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-16 in Patna, where he was also holding the additional charge of SP (Law and Order), Bihar. He has been appointed Aide-de-Camp (Police) to the Governor at the Governor’s Secretariat in Patna.
Kumari Mamta Kalyani, a recently promoted IPS officer serving as Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-10, Patna, has been assigned the additional charge of Commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police-16.
The latest orders bring changes to the police leadership in Khagaria and Sheohar and reassign responsibilities at the state level.
The reshuffle follows a larger exercise in August, when the Bihar government transferred 17 IPS officers, including the SPs of Bhojpur and Siwan. Those changes came amid controversies surrounding police action in the two districts.
Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha was then transferred and placed on the waiting list after controversy over the alleged use of AK-47 rifles by police personnel during a student protest on July 25. Bhojpur SP Raj was also transferred following public outrage over the death of local activist Bharat Tiwari in an alleged police encounter.
Hriday Kant was appointed SP of Nalanda, Bharat Soni took charge as Siwan SP, and Awadhesh Dixit was posted as Bhojpur SP in that reshuffle.
