Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Sunday held Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav responsible for the arrest of senior party leader Azam Khan, arguing that the cases against the former minister stemmed from alleged irregularities during the previous SP government.
Reacting to the Enforcement Directorate’s action against Khan, Rajbhar said the authorities were acting in connection with allegations linked to the period when the Samajwadi Party was in power. He also cited the dispute over land and construction at Jauhar University, saying proper records should have been maintained and the land should have been registered in the institution’s name.
“Akhilesh Yadav is responsible for Azam Khan’s arrest,” Rajbhar told reporters, adding that the action was being taken in connection with a disproportionate assets case. He also referred to High Court directions concerning structures allegedly built on government land and questioned why the state government was being blamed.
The minister further questioned why Yadav remained outside jail while Khan and former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prajapati were behind bars in cases he described as connected.
Rajbhar also commented on the alleged religious conversion case at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), calling for a proper investigation and action against anyone found guilty. He said criminal conduct could occur in any setting and should be dealt with through the law.
On SP leader S.T. Hasan’s remarks questioning the birthplace of Lord Ram, Rajbhar criticised the statement and questioned Hasan’s knowledge of the subject. He said people should be adequately informed before making such claims.
Rajbhar’s remarks came amid the political exchanges surrounding the ED action against Khan, with the minister defending the investigation and accusing the previous SP leadership of responsibility for the circumstances facing the senior party leader.
