New Delhi, October 31, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Delhi Police have arrested five people for allegedly running a cyber fraud racket by impersonating Paytm executives and targeting street vendors and small business owners with fake offers of assistance for KYC updates, QR codes and soundbox replacement.

The gang was busted by the Cyber Police Station in Shahdara district during an investigation into a fraud of Rs 95,000 involving a vegetable vendor. Police suspect the accused may have cheated around 50 to 60 people through a similar modus operandi.

The case was registered on October 26 under FIR No. 55/26 following a complaint by Ramavtar, who alleged that two men approached him on October 20, posing as Paytm representatives.

Claiming they would resolve KYC-related issues and update his QR code soundbox, the accused allegedly took possession of his mobile phone. Two unauthorised transactions of Rs 50,000 and Rs 45,000 were subsequently carried out, causing a total loss of Rs 95,000.

Police said the investigation involved tracing the money trail, examining bank accounts and analysing CCTV footage, which led to the arrests.

The accused have been identified as Juned, 23, from Chhaprauli in Baraut, Uttar Pradesh; Anas, 19, from Sangam Vihar, Wazirabad; Mohit, 24, and Rohit, 19, both from Bhalswa Dairy in North Delhi; and Sumit Kumar, 19, from Aya Nagar in South Delhi.

According to police, Juned and another accused allegedly posed as Paytm executives to approach victims, while the remaining three allegedly provided bank accounts to route and withdraw the cheated money.

A Paytm employee identity card was recovered from Juned’s mobile phone. Police said he had previously been associated with the company.

Investigators have linked the accused’s bank accounts to around 20 cybercrime complaints and cases registered across the country. Six mobile phones, seven SIM cards, four ATM cards and three cash withdrawal slips were also recovered.

Further investigation is underway to identify other victims and establish the full extent of the alleged racket.
