Need to make higher education employment oriented: Punjab EM Harjot Bains

Punjab Higher Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains on Monday called for a shift in focus towards career-oriented education, emphasizing the need to equip youth with entrepreneurial and skilled abilities.

He observed that Punjab’s youth are increasingly looking to explore opportunities overseas, and by providing them with a skill education, they will be empowered to thrive and make a meaningful impact in the global community.

Addressing a workshop on the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing landscape of higher education in Punjab, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted the achievements of the Punjab government, including increased enrollment in government schools and higher education institutions.

He also pointed out that higher education enrollment has seen a remarkable 200% increase, a positive development. Nevertheless, to harness the full potential of this growth and ensure employability, he added that it is essential to infuse higher education with skill-based training and relevant industry expertise.

Minister Bains also praised the transformation of government schools and emphasized the need for a similar change in higher education subjects. Education experts from across Punjab appreciated the discussion initiated by the government, expressing optimism for positive outcomes in the future.

The workshop was attended by prominent figures, including Secretary Education Mr. Kamal Kishore Yadav, Director Higher Education Mrs. Amrit Singh, and Vice Chancellors from various universities. The event marked a significant step towards redefining the higher education landscape in Punjab, with a focus on creating a skilled and entrepreneurial workforce.
