Kabul, September 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on Monday condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Paktika provinces, describing the action as a “breach of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.”

Karzai expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the strikes and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

In a Pashto post on X, Karzai said he “strongly condemned” the Pakistani airstrikes in Kunar and Paktika, which he said resulted in the deaths and injuries of Afghan citizens. He termed the action a violation and a breach of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.

Karzai also said Pakistan’s current security problems were linked to what he described as the country’s “misguided policies” towards Afghanistan. He expressed hope that Pakistani authorities would review their policies and choose the path of good neighbourliness.

His remarks came after Taliban authorities accused Pakistan of carrying out airstrikes in Kunar and Paktika that killed three people and injured four others.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid had earlier condemned the strikes and warned that Afghanistan would give an “appropriate response.”

Mujahid said the attacks targeted Afghan territory and civilians. According to his account, one woman and two men were killed in Kunar, while two women and two men were injured. He said a house and a local shop were also bombed in Paktika, but no casualties were reported there.

Mujahid accused Pakistan’s military leadership of carrying out the strikes to divert attention from security problems within Pakistan. Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban authorities of failing to prevent armed groups, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), from operating from Afghan territory. Afghan authorities have rejected the allegation.

The latest strikes come amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with repeated cross-border exchanges of fire and growing concerns over civilian casualties.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported on July 28 that 57 people were killed and 342 injured in cross-border armed violence in Afghanistan between April 1 and June 30. It said airstrikes and ground engagements were the main causes of civilian harm and attributed all recorded cross-border civilian casualties during the period to Pakistani security forces.

According to UNAMA, 26 children were killed and 86 injured, while six women were killed and 34 injured during the period.

The UN agency said the largest number of civilian casualties resulted from airstrikes by Pakistani security forces in Paktia, Paktika and Kunar on June 28. It also reported that cross-border shelling in Kunar between April 27 and 29 resulted in 99 civilian casualties, including eight deaths and 91 injuries.
