Ro Khanna Urges Democrats to Block US Military Funding for Iran War, End Aid to Israel

Washington, November 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna has urged Democrats to use a short-term government funding measure to prohibit financing for US military combat operations in Iran and eliminate American aid to Israel, setting out his demands after the party’s performance in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“Support a continuing resolution prohibiting the financing of any combat activities of the U.S. military in Iran. End the Iran war like we did for Vietnam,” the California Democrat wrote on X.

In a separate demand, Khanna called on Democrats to “Support the zeroing out of all aid to Israel in the continuing resolution.”

Khanna made the proposals in response to Vice President JD Vance’s remarks on the election results. He argued that opposition to the Iran war and allegations of corruption had contributed to Republican losses.

His post outlined political demands rather than detailed legislative provisions. It did not specify the proposed restrictions’ effective date, the funds they would cover or whether exceptions would be permitted.

Khanna also used the post-election moment to press for a broader domestic economic agenda. In a separate opinion article published by MS NOW, he called on Democrats to pursue a programme inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, focusing on economic inequality, affordability and investment in communities affected by industrial decline.

His proposals include establishing a National Industrial Bank to support sectors such as semiconductors, rare earth minerals, advanced manufacturing, medical innovation, shipbuilding and artificial intelligence.

He also advocated a Work for America programme, modelled on the New Deal-era Works Progress Administration, to create opportunities for young people in community development, care services, technology projects and training.

Khanna’s agenda further includes Medicare for All, free public college, expanded trade schools and more affordable housing. He said he was working on legislation proposing zero-down-payment, low-interest home loans for eligible people who have worked and paid rent for seven years.

To fund the proposals, he pointed to a billionaire tax measure he said he had sponsored with Senator Bernie Sanders, arguing that reduced spending on wars and weapons should also contribute to the shift in federal priorities.
