Chandigarh, November 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The PGIMER Chandigarh has announced free medical treatment for the six-year-old girl who sustained critical injuries in an alleged assault at a school in Panchkula on October 28, with the institute’s Director Professor Vivek Lal assuring her family of continued support.

Professor Lal visited the child at the hospital on Sunday and interacted with the treating doctors to review her medical condition and progress. He expressed concern over the incident and directed that the entire cost of her treatment be borne by the institute.

PGIMER has also provided the girl with a private room to ensure her comfort, privacy and appropriate care during her hospital stay.

The Director said the institute’s responsibility extended beyond medical treatment and included supporting patients and their families through difficult circumstances. He assured the family that the child would receive the best possible care and all necessary assistance.

The girl was brought to PGIMER with critical injuries after an alleged assault by an eight-year-old boy inside her classroom at a Panchkula school. She was subsequently referred to the Chandigarh institute for specialised treatment.

She is currently being treated by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, who are closely monitoring her condition and providing the required medical attention.

According to officials, Professor Lal will personally monitor the treatment and other care arrangements for the child. The institute has assured the family that medical and institutional support will continue throughout her treatment.
