Atlanta, November 1, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A proposed community bank in the Atlanta area is set to draw its name and visual identity from the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with organisers hoping to open the institution by April 2027, community leader Dr Vasudev Patel has said.
Speaking to IANS, Dr Patel said the proposed institution would be called Iron Man Unity Bank. He said some government formalities were still pending and that the proposed opening date remained an expectation.
“In the next six months, it is going to open,” he said, adding that the outstanding formalities were expected to be completed by April 2027.
Dr Patel said the bank’s logo would feature the Statue of Unity and would appear on its cheques and other branding material.
Explaining the idea behind the design, he said it would introduce customers from different communities to Sardar Patel’s contribution to India’s unity. People seeing the logo could ask about its significance, providing an opportunity to share the history of the leader, he added.
However, details about the proposed bank’s capital, ownership structure and the specific government formalities yet to be completed were not disclosed.
The proposal comes alongside a commemoration at the Indian Consulate in Atlanta, where External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled a bust of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on National Unity Day.
Dr Patel, president of the Federation of Gujarati Associations of USA, said the federation’s national team had sponsored the bust.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was independent India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. He played a central role in integrating princely states into the Indian Union and is widely remembered as the Iron Man of India.
The Statue of Unity in Gujarat commemorates his legacy, while his birth anniversary on October 31 is observed as National Unity Day.
