Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the INDIA bloc was committed to ensuring that those accused of undermining Indian democracy are held accountable, regardless of their position.
Speaking to the media after a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, Gandhi said the discussions focused primarily on alleged “vote chori” and accusations that the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had attacked democratic institutions.
“The main issue was ‘vote chori’. Every party has an opinion that BJP, Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Gyanesh Kumar have attacked Indian democracy,” Gandhi said.
He described accountability as a collective commitment of the Opposition alliance, asserting that Indian democracy was bigger than any individual.

Gandhi also said INDIA bloc leaders viewed themselves as collective defenders of the Constitution and expressed confidence that their coordinated efforts would bring significant changes in the country over the coming months.
He claimed the Opposition had made progress in communicating its allegations of electoral irregularities to the public. Gandhi also pointed to what he described as a growing sense of resistance among young people, saying they believed the developments were wrong and needed to be addressed.
The meeting was held as INDIA bloc leaders discussed a roadmap for nationwide protests against what they described as the Election Commission’s “flawed and partisan” approach.
The Congress has called for the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, maintaining that the right to vote belongs to the people.
Gandhi’s remarks came amid the Opposition’s continuing allegations of electoral irregularities and concerns over the functioning of democratic institutions.
