BJP president Nitin Nabin on Friday questioned Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s silence over alleged inflammatory remarks by Jharkhand Minister Irfan Ansari, accusing the Congress leadership of promoting instability and anarchy.
In a post on X, Nabin alleged that Congress ministers in Jharkhand were claiming the party was prepared to create instability in the country at Rahul Gandhi’s direction.
He questioned whether Gandhi’s silence amounted to tacit approval and asked whether the alleged plan to spread instability was being carried out at his behest. Nabin accused the Congress leader of shielding those whose statements, he claimed, posed a threat to the country’s stability, and demanded an explanation.
Ansari triggered controversy during an interaction in Delhi when he claimed that 40 lakh young people were ready to take to the streets and were waiting for a signal from Rahul Gandhi. He said the Congress leader had so far restrained them.
The Jharkhand minister also alleged that farmers, workers, the middle class, Dalits, tribals and Muslims were facing difficulties under the BJP-led government. He warned that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not take note of the situation, developments in India could be worse than those witnessed in Bangladesh and Nepal.
The BJP had criticised Ansari’s remarks on Thursday, describing them as reflective of what it called the Congress party’s anarchic mindset.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said the minister’s claim about 40 lakh young people waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s call demonstrated the Congress’s alleged politics of anarchy. He also linked Ansari’s remarks to what he described as a conspiracy to create instability in the country.
