Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve fuel, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, arrived at the Cabinet meeting in a single vehicle on Wednesday.
The gesture of carpooling by two Union Ministers conveyed a responsible message towards judicial use of resources. Their initiative is not just a one-time event but a step taken to inspire citizens, government officials and public representatives to adopt similar practices in daily life.
Prime Minister Modi has consistently advocated that every citizen should contribute towards fuel savings, describing it as a collective responsibility that can significantly impact the country’s energy security and environmental health.
Earlier this month, Scindia and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu had also arrived at the Cabinet meeting in a single vehicle in a notable gesture towards resource conservation.
In another example of a fuel-saving measure, Delhi Ministers Parvesh Verma and Ravinder Indraj Singh travelled in an electric bus to reach the venue for the inauguration of a Public Works Department (PWD) drainage project.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna had travelled to his office in the state Assembly in an e-rickshaw along with his staff, promoting the use of electric mobility.
Such measures help minimise vehicular emissions, ease traffic congestion and promote a culture of sustainability across the country.
Senior leaders adopting these practices at various levels of governance send a strong message to the public and encourage widespread participation in conservation efforts.
It highlights how small individual and collective actions can contribute to the larger national goals of reducing fuel imports, lowering pollution levels and combating climate change.
