Akali Dal Punar Surjit won’t tolerate indiscipline within party at any cost: Working Committee

Amritsar, July 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A meeting of the District Presidents and Working Committee members of Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjeet was held at the party’s headquarters in Sri Amritsar Sahib.

Addressing the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh questioned why the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been actively implementing the June 15 Hukamnama, while no similar action was taken against those who failed to comply with the December 2 Hukamnamas. He said those Hukamnamas were also issued by the five Sikh High Priests (Panj Singh Sahiban) from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and represented the collective sentiments of the Sikh community. He further stated that the failure to even mention those who defied the Hukamnamas during the gathering at Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall indicates that the silence is part of a deliberate conspiracy.

Referring to the statement made by Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, regarding an Aam Aadmi Party IT cell based in Chandigarh allegedly trolling him through AI-generated videos, Giani Harpreet Singh said they fully understand such pain. He claimed that even before the December 2 Hukamnamas were issued, the IT cell of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) had subjected them to even harsher trolling in an attempt to pressure them.

He stated that despite such pressure, they took decisions strictly in accordance with Sikh traditions and Maryada. Had they acted under pressure in anyone’s favour, he said, they would still be serving at the Takht Sahib today. Instead, they fulfilled their Panthic duty by protecting established traditions.

Speaking about what he described as an attempt to create a confrontation between Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Giani Harpreet Singh appealed to the Chief Minister to take the initiative to end the conflict.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Giani Harpreet Singh announced that the Working Committee had passed a resolution authorising the party’s disciplinary committee to take strict action against anyone violating party discipline so that organisational discipline is maintained.

The committee also passed a resolution condemning the renaming of the film “Punjab 95,” based on the life of martyr Jaswant Singh Khalra, its non-release in cinemas, and its removal from an OTT platform a day after being released there. The party demanded that the film be released immediately in theatres without censorship.

The meeting reiterated that Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjeet has supported a federal structure for India since its inception and strongly demanded greater powers for the states through a genuinely federal system.

It was also decided that constituency-level meetings would begin soon, with dates to be announced shortly. The party announced that it would soon constitute a manifesto committee, which would tour Punjab to gather the concerns and demands of all sections of society for inclusion in the party’s manifesto.

The Working Committee further decided to commemorate the 100th martyrdom anniversary of Sardar Teja Singh Samundri on July 17 at Mastuana Sahib on a grand scale.

Giani Harpreet Singh reiterated that the party firmly supports Panthic unity and has constituted a coordination committee for that purpose. However, he emphasized that such unity must be based on mutual respect, dignity, and equality.

The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, district presidents, Working Committee members, SGPC members, and office-bearers from across Punjab. The press statement was issued by the party’s Media In-charge, Sardar Tejinder Singh Pannu.
