In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted two narcotics smuggling networks with the arrest of three individuals, and recovered 13 Kg of heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.
Those arrested have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, a native of Khemkaran in Tarn Taran and presently residing at Kherabad in Kamboj, Amritsar; Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh, both residents of village Bhodiwala in Moga. Apart from recovering contraband, police teams have also impounded Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number UP-14-DL-0324, being used for smuggling of narcotics.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were involved in picking up heroin consignments from different locations and supplying them to various parties across Punjab.
Sharing operational details of first operation, he said that police teams from CI Amritsar had received reliable inputs that suspect Akashdeep had received a huge consignment of heroin. Acting swiftly, police team raided the house of Akashdeep Singh at Kherabad in Amritsar and recovered 8 kg heroin from his possession.
In another operation, he said that acting on reliable inputs that two drug smugglers are on the way to deliver the drug consignment in their Verna car, operational team of CI Amritsar laid Nakas on Amritsar-Chabal GT Road and intercepted the Verna car in which Mangal Singh and Baljit Singh were travelling. During search of their vehicle, 5 kg heroin was recovered from their car, he said.
The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in both the cases to identify other associates involved in the networks, and uncover the entire supply chain.
In this regard, two separate cases— FIR No. 42 dated 06-07-2026 under sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 43 dated 06-07-2026 under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act— have been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
