New Delhi, July 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has strongly condemned the removal of the film ‘Satluj’, based on the life of noted Punjab human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, just two days after its release on the OTT platform ZEE5, and urged that the film be restored immediately.
Addressing the media, DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said it was essential that historical facts and truth be brought before the people, particularly the younger generation.
The Sikh leaders said there was widespread satisfaction among the Sikh community when the film, originally titled ‘Punjab 95’ and later released as ‘Satluj’, finally became available on an OTT platform after years of delay.
However, they said the decision to withdraw the film within just two days of its release had shocked not only justice-loving citizens but also the Sikh community.
Film Based on Historical Facts
Kalka and Kahlon said Satluj was not made merely for entertainment but was intended to present one aspect of the dark period witnessed in Punjab during the 1990s through the life and work of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra.
They said Khalra had exposed the alleged illegal cremation of Sikh youths who were declared unclaimed by collecting documentary evidence, bringing the issue before the nation and the world.
According to the DSGMC leaders, the film is based on documented historical facts and reflects an important chapter of Punjab’s history.
‘Film Received Global Appreciation’
The committee leaders noted that after nearly four years of struggle, the film was finally released on an OTT platform and had been watched and appreciated by audiences across the world.
They said its sudden removal had come as a major setback not only for cinema lovers but also for the Sikh community.
Appealing for the immediate restoration of the film, Kalka and Kahlon said young generations should have the opportunity to understand the tragic events that took place in Punjab and the historical truths associated with them.
