Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee on Friday accused the West Bengal Police of spying on him and keeping watch on his residence and office in Kolkata.
In a social media post, Banerjee alleged that unidentified individuals had been conducting reconnaissance around his office and residence for the past two days. He shared a photograph and video of a motorcycle with a man riding it, along with its registration number.
“For the past two days, a few unidentified individuals have been conducting reconnaissance of my office and residence. The registration number of their motorcycle is mentioned below. When confronted, they claimed to be police personnel,” Banerjee said.
Questioning the alleged surveillance, he asked who had authorised the operation and for what purpose. He said he would raise the matter with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the state police.
“I demand an immediate and thorough inquiry to establish the identity of these individuals, who sent them, and to uncover the nefarious motive behind this suspected conspiracy,” the Diamond Harbour MP said.
This is the second serious allegation Banerjee has levelled against the West Bengal Police within 24 hours.
On Thursday, he alleged that cash amounting to Rs 1,02,79,000, recovered by police from a Trinamool Congress party office at Sarisha in South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday, had been planted by the police administration.
He also claimed that his executive assistant, Sumit Roy, who is currently in police custody, was being threatened with an encounter and pressured to make statements against him.
