AAP MP Malvinder Kang Welcomes Decision to Restore Punjabi Signboards at Panjab University

Chandigarh, June 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang welcomed the decision of Panjab University to restore Punjabi signboards and nameplates across its campus, calling it an important step towards preserving Punjab’s linguistic and cultural heritage.

Kang had strongly raised objections after Punjabi (Gurmukhi) was removed from signboards and nameplates at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He described the move as a disregard for the language that reflects the history, culture, and identity of Punjab.

Taking up the matter with the Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chancellor of Panjab University, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, Kang had urged immediate intervention to ensure that Punjabi was restored to its rightful place and accorded the respect it deserves in an institution that carries the name and legacy of Punjab.

Sharing the development, Kang informed that he has received an official communication from the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University confirming that the process of installing Punjabi signboards has already been initiated. According to the communication, the university has placed the order for Punjabi signages, and their installation will be carried out at the earliest.

Welcoming the decision, Kang said that it sends a strong message that the identity of Punjab and the dignity of the Punjabi language cannot be overlooked. He added that Punjabi is not merely a language but a symbol of Punjab’s rich cultural heritage and collective identity, which must be respected and promoted at every level.

Kang expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chancellor of Panjab University, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, for his prompt attention to the matter. He also appreciated the university administration for taking corrective action and responding positively to the concerns raised by the people of Punjab.

The AAP MP said that the pride, prominence, and rightful place of Punjabi must always be protected in every institution associated with Punjab.
