Actress Shefali Shah has shared a hilarious account of her Diwali cleaning routine, revealing a collection of forgotten household items, old diaries, empty perfume bottles and an unusually large number of ponchos.
Taking to Instagram, the ‘Darlings’ actress described Diwali safai as an excuse to become a “lean, mean cleaning machine”. Her discoveries included old ketchup sachets, nearly empty perfume bottles, outdated medicines and a tea set that she jokingly claimed was gifted by Queen Victoria.
She also revealed that despite bringing out the tea set every Diwali, she puts it back because it is too beautiful to use. “The fact that it’s still brand new after decades should be sign enough that we mere mortals shouldn’t try to inculcate high tea in place of masala chai. But who knows, some day I may be Queen,” she wrote.
Among her other discoveries were an over-scrubbed pan, several old diaries, gift baskets and 22 water bottles, some with missing lids or damaged straws.
The biggest surprise was her collection of 16 and a half ponchos, despite having visited Norway and Finland only once. “Whoever the hell has so many ponchos needs to be ponched. Not me!” she joked, suggesting that some could be passed on to friends.
She also quipped that her children would inherit the gift baskets, wrapping paper and pages from her old diaries, joking that the material could fill several volumes of famous literary works.
Summing up her cleaning discoveries, Shefali listed 65 empty perfume bottles, 22 water bottles, 16 and a half ponchos, an over-scrubbed pan and a teapot before signing off with, “Happy Diwali, darlings.”
Professionally, Shefali will next be seen in ‘The Pride of Bharat – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’, scheduled for release on January 21, 2027. Directed by Sandeep Singh, she will portray Rajmata Jijabai in the film.
