Delhi Police have arrested a cafe owner and his associate for allegedly extorting around Rs 26,000 from a customer who was lured to the establishment by a woman he met through Tinder.
The accused have been identified as Javed (38), owner of Black Panther Cafe in Hudson Lane, and Anuj Kumar (24). Both are residents of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Police are also trying to trace the woman, identified as Sanya alias Nikita.
According to police, the incident took place on November 1 when the complainant, Zaid Ahmad, a resident of Bihar’s West Champaran, agreed to meet the woman for a blind date near GTB Nagar Metro Station. She subsequently took him to the cafe in Mukherjee Nagar.
After food, drinks and whisky were ordered, the complainant was presented with a handwritten bill of around Rs 26,000. When he questioned the amount, the cafe owner and staff allegedly pressured him to pay and threatened him, preventing him from leaving.
Fearing for his safety, Ahmad contacted his father, who transferred the money online. After initial payment attempts failed, the amount was transferred through another QR code displaying the name Naveen Rajput. Ahmad was allowed to leave only after the payment.
Following a PCR call, an FIR was registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station under Sections 308(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police arrested Javed and Anuj from the cafe during the investigation and said neither had any previous criminal involvement.
Further investigation is underway to trace the woman and establish whether others were involved in the alleged extortion racket.
