India’s leading e-commerce platforms recorded an estimated Rs 24,000 crore in sales during the first two days of the festive shopping season, driven by strong demand for smartphones, consumer electronics, home appliances and fashion products, according to a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants.
Online marketplaces, including Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Ajio, generated a combined gross merchandise value (GMV) of more than $2.5 billion, equivalent to approximately Rs 24,200 crore, during the opening two days of festive sales, the consultancy estimated.
Around 8-9 crore orders were placed during the period, with an estimated 6-6.5 crore consumers participating in the shopping event. Sales were nearly six times the average daily business-as-usual run rate, underscoring the scale of festive-season spending.
Smartphones emerged as the largest contributor, accounting for 38-40 per cent of total GMV, or an estimated Rs 9,100-9,600 crore.
Consumer electronics ranked second, contributing around 25-27 per cent of overall sales, equivalent to approximately Rs 6,000-6,500 crore. Fashion products accounted for another 15-18 per cent, generating an estimated Rs 3,630-4,350 crore during the first two days, the report said.
Strong Demand for Electronics and Appliances
Demand for large appliances and electronic products remained particularly robust. Televisions, refrigerators and air conditioners together accounted for more than two-thirds of large-appliance sales.
In the television segment, 55-inch models from brands such as TCL, LG, Samsung and Xiaomi dominated demand, representing more than three-fourths of the top-selling stock-keeping units (SKUs), according to Redseer.
The consultancy noted that electronics had already recorded growth of more than 20 per cent in the first half of 2026, as consumers brought forward purchases amid expectations of higher prices later in the year.
During the opening two days of festive sales, electronics orders surged to nearly 14 times their normal daily levels. Strong demand for laptops and internet-connected devices also contributed to the increase.
Fashion Sales Rise 22-25 Per Cent
Fashion was another major growth driver, with the segment’s gross merchandise value increasing by 22-25 per cent year-on-year.
Sales of fashion products were three to five times higher than average daily levels, supported by demand for affordable festive clothing. Tier 2 cities and smaller towns were particularly important contributors to this demand, the report noted.
The strong opening reflects consumers’ willingness to spend during the festive season, with smartphones and electronics leading sales while affordable fashion adds to the momentum across online marketplaces.
