MRSPTU Celebrates World Pharmacist Day and National Pharmacy Week 2026 with Focus on Antimicrobial Resistance

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology (DOPST) at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, in collaboration with the university’s NSS Cell, celebrated World Pharmacist Day and National Pharmacy Week 2026 under the theme “Swasth Bharat – Combating Antimicrobial Resistance.”

The week-long programme aimed to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR), encourage the rational use of medicines and highlight the vital role pharmacists play in protecting public health.

The celebrations were inaugurated by MRSPTU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, who attended as the Chief Guest, while Registrar Prof. Paramjeet Singh was the Guest of Honour. The programme was organised under the guidance of Chief Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Baldi, Convenor Dr. Navjot Kanwar, Nodal Officer for the AMR Awareness Mission Dr. Tanushka, and Event Coordinators Dr. Amarjeet, Dr. Jyoti and Dr. Ritika.

A range of academic, creative and community-oriented activities were organised throughout the week. These included poster-making, leaflet-making and Scitoon competitions, a plantation drive, a campus cleanliness drive, a Nukkad Natak, a panel discussion on antimicrobial resistance and an NSS lecture on Ayurvedic Day.

The main World Pharmacist Day programme featured an AMR Awareness Rally, flagged off by university authorities, followed by a Pharma Quiz, a Nukkad Natak and a panel discussion. The activities sought to sensitise students and participants to the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of responsible medicine use.

As part of the concluding celebrations of National Pharmacy Week, the department, in collaboration with the NSS Cell and AIIMS Bathinda, organised a blood donation camp. Students and faculty members participated voluntarily, reflecting their commitment to community welfare and social responsibility.

The winners of the various competitions were announced as follows: Scitoon Competition: Gurashish, Jasleen, Nikhil and Deetya; Pharma Quiz: Rishav, Geetanshi, Arman, Deetya, Harvinder and Khushpreet; Poster Making: Himani, Sanya and Anmol Rajan; Leaflet Making: Ramandeep and Nitika; Nukkad Natak: Rampreet, Diksha, Kirandeep, Adeshveer, Sehajkamal, Noordeep, Parneet Sidhu, Amanpreet, Navdeep and Deetya; and Reel Making: Snigdha Joshi, Fahad, Shruti, Shivangi, Gobind, Harsh and Gautam.

Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma emphasised the indispensable role of pharmacists in the healthcare system. He stressed the urgent need to tackle antimicrobial resistance through public awareness, responsible medicine use and collective action, while underlining the importance of such initiatives in advancing the vision of a healthy India.

Registrar Prof. Paramjeet Singh encouraged students to uphold professional ethics, promote the rational use of medicines and make meaningful contributions to public health.

The celebrations reinforced the importance of pharmacists in promoting responsible healthcare practices and strengthening public awareness about antimicrobial resistance.
