The Punjab Government has notified an 8 per cent enhancement in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners, with the revised benefit taking effect from September 1, 2026.
The decision, announced by the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government, is expected to benefit more than 8 lakh employees and pensioners across the state. The government said the move would provide additional financial support amid rising household expenses and the cost of essential commodities.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the decision follows a recent meeting between employee union representatives and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, during which various issues concerning employees, including the demand for an increase in DA, were discussed.
The CMO said the Chief Minister had assured employee representatives that their genuine demands would be considered sympathetically and that appropriate steps would be taken in the interest of employees and pensioners.
“In keeping with this commitment, the government has now formally notified the decision to grant the 8% enhanced DA,” the CMO said.
The enhanced DA will apply from September 1, 2026, with employees receiving the increased amount along with their salary in accordance with applicable government provisions. Pensioners will also receive the enhanced DA under the relevant rules.
The government said the notification fulfils the assurance given by the Chief Minister during his interaction with employee representatives and reflects its approach of maintaining dialogue with employees and addressing their concerns.
The CMO said the 8 per cent enhancement would provide financial relief to more than 8 lakh employees and pensioners in Punjab.
The announcement comes amid continued discussions between the state government and employee and pensioner organisations over various service-related and financial issues. Recent reports also said the government had announced an 8 percentage-point DA increase for around eight lakh beneficiaries.
